To our many friends and customers:

Thru the years we have met thousands of you in our showroom here in Ohio. Plus many more at hunting dog events in several states. We are most thankful for your friendship, and support.

Our decision to close has not been an easy one, but these 64 years have rolled by way too fast! The time has come for us not to just slow down a little, not to semi-retire, but to stop. We are sorry to inform you that Bill Boatman & is now closed for business

Proud and happy, Craig Taylor
Bee Bee Bouncin' Bingo was 19 months old when this hunt took place. He came to the Boatmans at 10 weeks of age. He now weighs 53 lbs. and is a bundle of muscle. A grandson of the renowned Elhew Snakefoot, Bingo has a bird-finding nose, runs with style and is a tireless hunter.

Bingo is proud and happy, too! When this photo was snapped he was enjoying his first full hunting season.

Bill prefers a close working dog, yet one who hunts the most likely cover. This requires lots of experience. Bingo first started with the tendency to range wide. Bill uses a Radio Systems SD 1850 Remote Trainer with Beeper (our no. 749) and the SD Add-A-Dog with Beeper (our no. 751) for Meg to manage the range and the dogs have responded. It took several trips to the training field plus hunting to rein them in!

Here's why many folks order their dog & hunting equipment from Bill Boatman & Co.
  • The Boatmans feed and care for their dogs 365 days a year like most of their customers. In doing so, they know practical hunting, dog and kennel supplies.
  • Bill and Carolyn enjoy their dogs! Currently, their primary interest is in English Pointer birddogs. Bee Bee Bingo was 11 years old in May and has had hundreds of birds shot over him. Meggie (short for Megabyrd) will be 10 years old in June. Duker, a direct son of renowned "Snakefoot", went to the "Happy Hunting Ground" in 2007.
  • Their neighbors: Stacy Thompson, Mike Myers, Kendall Evans and Leon Elliott are houndsmen and field testers of new and or revised products.
  • Bill & Carolyn have lots of good people at their plant. Earl Mahaffey joined their staff in 1952. Gene Smith has more than 40 years experience in making products and filling your orders. Other staff people are folks who enjoy pleasing our customers.
  • All of the above adds up to the fact we have vast experience in the dog and hunting supply field. We constantly search for new and better products to make and/or sell. Every year, we see and talk with tens of thousands of hunters like you.

Duker

At the right is English Pointer, Duker, at 13 years old. He was sired by Ch. Elhew Snakefoot of the renowned Elhew Kennels in upstate New York. The owner/breeder of Elhew, Robert Wehle, also owned a plantation in Alabama where he wintered, trained dogs and hunted.

Duker was bred by Norm Rieso of IL (618-539-3598), a friend of Wehle's, and came to us when he was 6 years old. Norm still breeds a few litters each year; carrying on the Elhew bloodlines.

Duker enjoyed the remainder of his life running loose at our home. Most days, he made numerous 1/4 mile trips to our "bird field."

Sadly, Duker passed away in 2007. He was a great dog to have around and is missed by all.
